New Year's resolutions

I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions. Usually, I don’t wait until a new year rolls in to work toward a goal. This year, though, I am compelled to do so. Here it goes:

  1. Simplify. Life with three children, though wonderful as it is, requires so much work. I hope to simplify, and let go of the little things day-by-day.
  2. Exercise. I’ve worked out too sporadically for my liking since Kelsey was born. In part, that is because nursing requires so much energy, and I find that when I exercise and nurse, I can’t eat enough on any given day to make up for it. And after being pregnant and nursing almost continuously since Dec. 2004, I am tired of being hungry all of the time! But I’ve already jumped back into my routine and will aim for 3-4 workouts per week initially.

My short-term goal: Remind myself each night (when I'm debating whether to run) that once I get on the treadmill, I'm always glad I made the effort.

My long-term goal: Run another half-marathon this summer.

More ambitious goal: Get my husband to run it with me. (Are you reading, honey?)
  3. Organize. This goes along with simplifying my life, though it will require much work to get organized! Too much of my home life is scattered here and there. I spend too much time looking for “lost” files and so forth. I resolve to spend the money on organizing tools (which always dissuades me from these projects) and devote time to sorting through our stuff, chunking the junk and organizing the rest.

So there you have it. In 2008: Simplify. Exercise. Organize.
